Water is needed for drinking, agriculture and power-all of them are needed for survival and development of our people. Hence, our concern is not only conserving water for natural processes to take place effectively, but also ensure the allocations for each of the requirements are sustainable, optimized and equitable where one’s water demand should not create burden on other’s requirement from same resources.
Vindhya Bachao has been forefront in the region when it comes to create the balance between river conservation and developmental requirements. Some of our activities can be summarized as follows:
-
Cleanliness programs in Water Falls of Mirzapur since 2012 in partnership with Eco One volunteers of Banaras Hind University.
-
Promotion of Water Falls as Income generating through ‘Eco-Tourism’
Ganga Conservation
Vindhya Bachao is among the 11 signatories who sent representations alongwith Dr. Bharat Jhunjhunwala to Government of India and World Bank on the proposed construction of barrages on Ganga river for rejuventation of National Waterways-1.
Vindhya Bachao also submitted their concerns in a meeting held by World Bank in October, 2014.
We have recently launched ‘Ganga Waterway Information Centre’, a dedicated web portal for sharing news and information to keep the general public updated about the proceedings of the project, scientific studies and government documents at one place.
