The leopard which reportedly got trapped inside a house in Sonpur village of Chunar range, Mirzapur is being captured by Forest Department around 7 pm today. Reportedly, a team of experts came from Lucknow and Allahabad to tranquilize the animal late evening. It was also given meat and water in afternoon by the forest staff, as demanded through twitter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav early in the morning.

Vindhya Bachao showed it’s dissatisfaction with the attitude of forest department and demanded an expert team be called and the animal be tranquilized rather attempted to be captured manually. The representation was sent to Chief Conservator of Forests-Mirzapur Div., Divisional Forest Officer-Mirzapur, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests-U.P. and Additional Director General of Forests-Ministry of Environment & Forests in the morning. The leopard was trapped inside a closed house since afternoon of 31st May.

Early in the morning, Debadityo Sinha, member of Vindhya Bachao also posted a series of tweets to the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav seeking his urgent intervention in the matter.

We congratulate the Forest Department and also thank them to take note of our concern. We will follow up with the safety of the leopard. In the representation, we have also demanded that the leopard be radio-collared to monitor it’s movement and safety.
