Mugger Crocodile (Crocodylus palustris), also known as the freshwater crocodile is a Schedule I protected reptilian species under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and is listed as 'Vulnerable' as per IUCN Red List. In this video shot on 12 October 2018 near Dhansiriya village in Rajgarh area, people are seen torturing this animal. Reportedly, the crocodile was later rescued by forest department staff. Incidences like this are getting common in the rural areas of Mirzapur. Just three days before this incident, a Mugger was killed by villagers in Marihan.
